Finals Week Playbook

Survive, Thrive, and Maybe Even Sleep

You told yourself you’d start studying over Thanksgiving break. Then suddenly it was Sunday night, you were three episodes deep into a Netflix show you don’t even like, and your backpack hadn’t moved from the corner. Happens to the best of us.

Now it’s crunch time. But don’t panic. Here’s how to get through finals week at CU Boulder with your GPA, caffeine levels, and mental stability somewhat intact.

Study Smart, Not Hard

Start by actually looking at your syllabus. Figure out what’s worth studying before you end up spending three hours reviewing a topic that’s worth five percent of your grade.

If you’re lost, use ASAP Tutoring for free peer help, or visit office hours. Professors actually like when you show up. It reminds them their class isn’t just being streamed in the background of your Spotify playlist.

The Writing Center is another lifesaver if your essay reads like it was written by a malfunctioning AI.

Find Your Study Zone

The right space can make or break your focus.

Norlin Library is open late, full of caffeine, and the perfect place to feel academic anxiety radiating off every wall.

The Business Library in Koelbel is an ideal place to study, but may be packed.

UMC lounges and C4C study rooms are great for group study sessions or pretending to study while you talk for two hours.

CASE has hidden spots where you can convince yourself you’re the main character in a college movie.

TL:DR

Reserve study rooms early. They book faster than a Taylor Swift tour.

Any weird nook you have found on campus, study there. Chances are all the main study spots are packed.

In all honesty, studying in your dorm or house may be the quietest spot you find, unless of course you live in a frat house.

Sleep Is the Real Cheat Code

Seven to nine hours isn’t just advice. It’s survival. Cut caffeine by early afternoon and shut down the screens before bed. Blue light kills melatonin faster than a frat boy kills a keg.

Keep your room cool, dark, and quiet. Lavender helps. And if you can’t sleep after twenty minutes, don’t fight it. Get up, stretch, or read until you’re tired again.

If you’ve hit that point where sleep feels impossible, reach out to CAPS or Peer Wellness Coaching. The Apothecary Pharmacy even has sleep aids and aromatherapy if that’s your thing.

Tech and Tools You Actually Need

Forgot your charger again? Norlin has backups. Buff Techs in the Commons can save your laptop from the coffee spill you swore wouldn’t happen this time. And if you’re lost in a last-minute research hole, the Ask a Librarian desk is staffed by actual humans who can help.

Take Breaks Like a Pro

Late Night Breakfast on Dec. 3 at the UMC has free food and zero guilt. The Mindfulness Room in Norlin is good for quiet time or strategic napping. If you’re really losing it, check out a State Parks Pass from the library and go touch some grass. Literally.

Final Thoughts

Finals week always feels impossible until it’s over. Make a plan, eat something that isn’t from a vending machine, take breaks, and actually sleep. Nobody remembers their sophomore year grades, but everyone remembers losing it in Norlin at 2 a.m.

Relax, you’re fine.
