“If I got in, I’d commit this second.”
That’s what a family friend said to me as we were walking around The Hill. Funny enough, we weren’t in the library when he said it. We weren’t in a dining hall either, although I’m sure the breakfast burrito station would’ve sealed the deal. We were walking past a house on The Hill with about ten guys playing early 2000s music, sitting in lawn chairs and on the roof (hopefully their landlord didn’t see), just hanging out.
What stuck with me was different. It wasn’t the music or the scene, it was how lucky this kid was to see all of this before making a decision. If he does end up at CU, he already understands something I didn’t. I came in knowing nothing about the social scene, where students actually live, or how off campus life works. And honestly, I would’ve been so much better off if I had.
